Well when you use the power button on the remote to turn off the console, it also turns of the remote. But if you touch any buttons it does it's lil search mode thingy for a few seconds and then shuts off again. Go to home and press the wiimote options. Then go to reconnect (or whatever it is where you simultaneously hold 1 and 2 to change remote order) If you press reconnect, then the controller will turn off.
You could press home and reconnect all the controllers you want and leave out the ones you don't.

I always use to leave the controllers running even if I didn't want to use them. It obviously wasted battery power, but there was little that I could do without knowing what you just typed.Thanks.
couldn't you simply click on home, go to reconnect and then simultaneously press 1 and 2 with only the wiimotes you want connected? Yes, I believe that's how you do it.
No fancy tricks required. Just leave it alone. The controller will automatically shut itself off after a few minutes.
